Angle Boards

This was interesting. We have been studying fractions and have touched on angles. In our last week of Term 3 we have decided to create Angle Boards. However, we did discuss fractions and how our design can be broken into quarters, sixths, eigths or tenths..

After sourcing out the wood, students painted their board and transferred their draft design onto their blackboard. Next step was to measure out 1 centimetre spaces on each line. Following this, they carefully nailed in nails on each centimetre, lots of challenges here! Lastly. they wrapped their coloured wool around the nails - creating an illusion!

Interesting challenge....and a number of children using a hammer for the first time - great effort from all...!!!!

Maths: Exploring volume and capacity!

As a class, we have explored and identified the terms capacity and volume. We are now predicting the volume of given shapes, including a tupperware container, Ecoya and a shoe box.

Our next step is to predict the volume of room 9. But first, we will make a meter cube, predict then measure.

Touch Ruby, 1st session....

Today was our first taster of touch rugby with all students enjoying the fast pace of the sport and beginning to understand and work through the skills and strategies needed.

Here's a few snaps of some students in action.

Touch rugby was so much fun! One of the things I learnt was that when you get touched you put the ball on the ground and step over it.

Something I enjoyed was when there were two teams and one player from one team had to try and touch a member from the other team. The second team member who had the rugby ball tried to dodge.

Something I found difficult was trying to run past the other team members!!!

Touch Rugby
Learnt
  1. I have learnt that playing touch rugby means not letting the other team touch you so you don’t have to put the ball down.
  2. I have learnt that you have to try to get a goal before the other team touches you.

Enjoyed
  1. I enjoyed playing touch rugby because we have to run away from the other team who does not have the ball.
  2. I enjoyed chasing around and playing fun games!!!!!

TOUCH RUGBY
On Monday 29th Rm9 went to the SNS senior court to learn about touch rugby.

The coach’s name was Sam. Sam taught us to plant and stand over the ball when you get touched. We were split into 2 teams. The team with ball had to run around the cones and had to dodge the team without the ball. When it came to my turn I sprinted around the cones and side stepped the player and scored a try on the try line.
